Stockholm Royal Seaport

The masterplan developed for the Royal Seaport area in Stockholm replaces the previous industrial site with 12,000 new homes and 35,000 workplaces. Construction started in 2011 and aims to be complete by 2030.

The development incorporates schools, sports centres, offices, commerce, cultural buildings, housing, services and recreational areas.

The key ideas that have driven the design are accessibility, sustainability, designing for the future and creating a safe and happy environment for users.

The development retains elements of the industrial character, by repurposing structures such as the gasometer; which will be transformed into a public cultural centre.

The development is designed to link with city centre as well as the parks to the North and South, with cycle paths, pedestrian walkways, tram lines and bio-fuel buses providing sustainable transportation.

Large green spaces are incorporated to reduce the developments impact on climate change. With sustainability at its heart the development will operate on renewable energy, using smart energy networks and recycling all of its waste.
